NEW WORKS BY ALEXANDRA PENNEY!

Alexandra Penney was born in Boston and has a BA degree from Smith College, where she studied printmaking with Leonard Baskin. Upon graduation she took an editorial job at Vogue magazine, working with Alexander Liberman and various photographers including Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Duane Michals, and Helmut Newton.

Ms. Penney obtained her Master's Degree in Studio Art and Art Criticism from CUNY/University of Chicago in 1977. Her published thesis, 'Critical Positions', was supervised by the noted critic Harold Rosenberg, who encouraged both her painting and writing. Ms. Penney wrote art criticism and continued to paint.

In 1998, she received a simple, inexpensive digital camera as a holiday present. It was a 'eureka' moment. Painterly thinking and decisions were possible through software and new technologies, and the artistic challenges that had obsessed Ms. Penney since her early painting days could be explored in completely new ways. Ms. Penney decided to focus solely on photography. Her works are held in numerous collections in the United States.
